Dear Family and Friends, 16 December 2007 Being our first year of marriage, we thought we would take life slowly—which we completely failed to do. After graduating from BYU, we took a leap of faith and left Provo for Holly’s internship in Cincinnati. We settled into a nice (small) apartment that can boast both a local deer population and easy access to anywhere in the city; it’s like a piece of rural Ohio in the middle of downtown Cincinnati.
Mark, the stay-at-home dad, is learning all the ups and downs of homemaker life as he stays at home with baby Noah. Consequently, he has never been so excited to go back to school. He was accepted by Case Western Reserve Medical School and awaits further notice from the University of Arizona and a few others. Mark teaches for Kaplan, a test prep company, where he teaches an MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) course, tutors foreign students with English, and works any odd jobs he can find.
Holly, the at-work mom, has completed eight weeks of her 44-week dietetic internship through Good Samaritan Hospital. She started the internship with clinical rotations—cardiac and medical—and is starting a counseling rotation. Fortunately, she gets Christmas week off to relax and get ahead on her assignments. Noah Rand came a week early—before Holly could even finish her first rotation. During Holly’s five-week maternity leave, we flew to Lake Tahoe for Mark’s cousin’s wedding and her mom came out to visit. Holly can’t wait to finish the internship, so she can be a full-time mom and rescue poor Noah from Dad.
Noah is loving life—all two months of it. He’s gained a few inches and pounds, and now finally fits into his car seat. His best friend is a motion sensitive toy that lights up and plays music when he flails around. He has started to smile, although his sideburns remain his best feature (according to Dad anyways).
We’re looking forward to celebrating our one-year anniversary on the 28th of December—although we already gave in and ate the top of our wedding cake last month. We’re excited for the adventures this upcoming year will bring. Hope all is well for you!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Love,
The Broadbents
Mark, Holly, and Noah

What fun. Thanks for the info. I think under friends it should be "Moms and Dads!"

Yea! I get the first comment on your first post. What a dork am I?
It's good to see you in cyber-land.
Mom told me about the Santa story. Score! Sometimes it pays to be chincy.
Thanks for blogging. We love you.
Welcome to the blogosphere! You guys look so cute. Mark, what do you find difficult about being a stay-at-home dad? Do you think it's boring and intellectually unstimulating?
And Mary, what is this? I thought you didn't know how to comment or something. I've had a blog for ages, but no comments from you! Are you too cool for my blog? (I'm just kidding)
wooo hooo!! you are now a blogger! love it!!
Wow, I can't believe you hauled the rest of your wedding cake all the way to Ohio.
