more pictures, some business

1st item of business:

Mark and I are starting a book club together. So I would love some recommendations. I get to choose the first book but I want to find something that Mark will enjoy. First thing you have to know is that Mark is very picky about his book selection. He doesn't care for coming-of-age stories. He's not big on historical fiction. Here are some fiction he enjoys: Life of Pi, Catch 22, Hitchhiker's guide..., Wheel of Time series. He also likes non fiction like biographies and and useful books. I mostly can read anything. I'm thinking Shogun--but it's kind of a big book. Any other suggestions??

2nd item of business--baby carriers:

We want to get a nice baby carrier.
- One with excellent back support and comfortable when going on walks and hikes
- Can fit both Mark (6') and me (5'4")
- The baby can face in or out
- Can use with infant and for as long as I can possibly carry the baby

We've looked at the Ergo, Moby, and Bjorn Active carrier. So far our 1st choice is the Bjorn Active Carrier because as far as we can tell, it meets the bottom 3 qualifications and supposedly the 1st.

With the Ergo, the baby can only face in

With the Moby, I don't think I could really use it on a hike

So, what is your experience with baby carriers?

3rd--a Noah quote:

In my serious tone, I was asking Noah why he peed in his pull-up. he was kind of upset and was "cry-talking." his response:

I (sniff) just (sniff) want (sniff) to (sniff) stick (sniff) my (sniff) finger (sniff) in (sniff) my (sniff) poop (sniff).

I'm sorry, I just couldn't help it. I laughed a lot. Noah started laughing too. so it was all good. He got off easy for that one ;)

4th--pictures:

Notice some of the interesting colors of eggs. Noah kept wanting to put the eggs back into the green or red dye whenever he took it out from somewhere else. I think it gave those eggs a very "organic" look.

Noah and Sal, after the Easter Egg hunt. See, we do put clothes on Noah, at least when his girl friends come over.

I hear that the ergo is best for back support and hiking. I think I'm going to buy one, so you can try it if you want. Beth's got our bjorn and moby so you could try those if you want. The bjorn is a little hard on the back, the moby was my favorite with Sal, although you could only hike with a pretty small baby in it. I vote for the ergo because I think it's most comfortable and you can put a pretty big kid in it, back or front.

I think Shogun is a fantastic chioce. In my experience, Mark doesn't mind long books - he minds overly wordy books. Mel and I both very much enjoyed Shogun.
You could also try Dune together. I am ure it has been a while since he read it, and I was surprised at how much I had forgotten/missed the first time through.
My final suggestion is In Defense of Food.
Good luck! Let us know what you pick. I am considering trying Steven King's fantasy series - Gunslinger. The books are short so you can stop the series easily if you dislike it.

The only problem with a long book right now is that Mark is studying for boards for the next 5 weeks and will probably only have time to read it on Sundays. If that's the case, a long book won't be a good first pick for us. I have been meaning to reading that Michael Pollen book though...

hahahhaha about the pull-ups. Kids are awesome.

Biff and I just read the hunger games together. We loved the first book. the second one... it was alright.

As far as baby carriers go, I've only ever used a didymos, and we looove it. They are expensive new, though. (we found a great deal when an online store went out of business) We use it all the time for hiking and bike riding, we just use a back carry and Hazel is nice and steady in it because it isn't as stretchy. Of course, you have to learn how to tie it and stuff, which really isn't that complicated, but it's a consideration. Back support just depends on which carry you're using and how well you've tied it. The storchenwiege is just like the didymos- double woven and not stretchy like a moby. So there's another option for ya.

I don't have a baby carrier I like so I just don't know about that.

Shogun is good, but for a book club I don't think so. Too long like you said and lots of people would have a hard time getting into it. I think Elantris is a good one for book club. It's easy to get into, good story and writing, and you don't have to like fantasy to like it.

Hey! Nice post! Chock full o' info! I like!
On the baby carriers, I'm afraid I'm no help. I have only used slings and quite like them a lot. But, That's all for me :)

I have a Bjorn that has a back support and is great, but the baby out grows it so fast. With an Ergo you can use it as a front pack or a back pack which is nice.
