magic things

A carseat tent. it attaches to the carseat so that you don't have to drape a blanket over it and worry about it falling off. see how to make one here. it's really easy!

A Moby. This is probably one of the best baby things I have ever purchased. I was never able to get Noah to fall asleep when he was an infant if he wasn't nursing. The same went for Maren until I started using the Moby. If she's upset but recently fed and changed, this is the one way I can get her to calm down and fall asleep. Plus, it allows me to do other things as well. The Moby is especially essential right now when we go on walks or go grocery shopping. she's too small for the double strollers that we have (and we don't trust Noah to not clobber her while riding in it yet). And the store that I shop at has teeny carts so I put Noah in the cart while she is in the Moby. I would simply just cry and go crazy without my moby.

A Glider. Sorry this isn't the best shot of the actual glider. (the best rocking chair ever) I was going to buy this from my friend who is moving to Hong Kong. We have, in fact, bought a few other magic things from her including our new kitchen table. But before we could buy it, the arm broke off. They were going to toss it but asked us if we wanted to try to fix it instead. My awesome father-in-law stepped up to the plate. Saturday morning the chair was left on our porch. By the end of the day the arm was fixed and I am so amazed how easily anyone who sits in it can get Maren to fall asleep.

It was so nice having family in town to help us out!!!

Alas, all my family is gone now. Somehow we are surviving. I will attribute this to these magic things. I also have to do a lot of ignoring. Ignoring the baby (temporarily of course!) if Noah needs my help/attention. Ignoring Noah when he is throwing a silly tantrum. Ignoring the socks left on the floor by my ultra busy/sleep deprived husband. Ignoring the fruit flies buzzing around the house (although my house is surprisingly clean!). I think we'll be ok!

Love the post, those are all great baby things to have! Betsey told me you have a blog, so I found you.

I love those car seat covers. I am going to make me one...hopefully. Good luck now that your help is gone!
