cloth diapers

A few months before I had Maren, My friend wrote a really awesome and convincing post about cloth diapering. Read it here. Anyway, I started telling some of my friends who cloth diaper that I was thinking about it. Then, my friend Eva showed up with some spare cloth diaper covers and a few things to get me started a few weeks after Maren was born. I thought, okay, well I guess I am really going to do this! Then I found and AMAZING deal on craigslist for like a zillion high quality prefolds in 3 different sizes, a couple wool diaper covers, wool wash, and a gigantic wet bag (where you hold the dirty diapers until laundry time). Seventy dollars people. I could probably spend that much on disposables for 2 children in 1 month. (fortunately Noah is practically potty-trained now!) I have probably spent maybe $60 more dollars getting the rest of the stuff I needed--a few extra covers, some extra to-go wet bags, microfiber cloth for cloth wipes, spray bottles and witch hazel for wetting the wipes.

Here is Maren in this adorable wool diaper cover my friend made

Here's Maren in a bright orange diaper cover (orange is recently my favorite color). I tried to get her to curl up on her tummy, but she doesn't do this anymore. She looks a little annoyed.

This is a waterproof diaper cover (from etsy) that velcroes shut. The elastic is perfect for keeping ALL blowouts contained. I bought this cover in a couple different colors.

This awesome little deal, called a snappi is the modern-day safety pin. it grabs the cloth from each direction to keep the prefold in place.

We aren't exclusive cloth diaperers. I usually use a disposable at night or if I'm going out for a long time and don't feel like carrying around a ton of extra clean and dirty cloth diapers. Also, I have a ton of diapers on hand so I would like to make use of everything I have! I like it. It's not that much extra work. A few extra loads of laundry a week but the laundry is low-maintenance. I don't have to worry about stains. And since Maren is exclusively breastfed, her poo is water soluble and so I don't ever have to get my hands dirty! Anyway. That's what we're doing.
