Halloween

I've become a little bit (or maybe a lot!) obsessed with steampunk lately thanks to my friend Janna.  So Mark and I decided that we will be steampunkers for Halloween for the rest of our lives.  seriously.  There's so much you can do with it so each year I will add a new piece to our costumes.  You can buy steampunk costumes online but they all look cheap and fake.  Plus, steampunk stuff is really fun (and fairly cheap depending on what you make) to create!

In case you don't know what steampunk is (we spent most of the party explaining what we were to everyone), here is a wikipedia article on it.  Chances are, you are actually familiar with the style, but just didn't know there was a name to it.

I'll put up more detailed pictures of our gear later on but here's the overall picture:

steam-powered camera and claw
Elise was a puppy.  hand-me-down from Noah and Maren.

love this "action shot."  and yes, I am nursing a baby while wearing an eye patch.

I crocheted Noah's hat and got the instructions from here.  Then I crocheted Elmo's eyes and nose using the same instructions from Yoda's eyes.  The Elmo costume and Yoda cape I made from a pattern.   And the light saber tutorial is here

Yoda had a pretty epic battle with Darth Vader when we arrived at the party.  Elmo ran around with Abby Cadabby and a handful of elephants and dinosaurs.

Those are really cute costumes, the adult and kids ones.

This morning at the gym I saw Mark's doppelganger. I did a double take- the guy looked just like him!

Steampunk. Now I know why they have steam on spaceships in some of the sci-fi movies.
