my own little art gallery

We've finally put up some much needed pictures on our ugly, plain walls.

The small pictures have been up for awhile but I had this huge space above my piano which featured ugly black marks, scratches, and badly filled holes where previous tenants had hung pictures. I found this huge picture at a church swap. At the time I thought I would paint over it with my own design, but I actually quite like it. The green chair in the corner is one I found on the tree lawn and stripped and refinished for my (now non-existing) piano students.

This wall now features my own works of art. I painted the barn picture a year ago after Mark got me paints, brushes, and canvas for Christmas. Ever since, I have been collecting old, used canvases from the tree lawn and picking them up at Joanns during sales.

The tree picture was found on the tree lawn--it was a painting of some couple with a very bright purple background. it took quite a bit of paint to cover that up! I started last year during fall (I wanted to have those bright, fall colors in my house forever) and finally finished it this week! I don't really know how to paint so when I started it, I got frustrated and left it down in the basement until just last Sunday night. The canoe painting I started and finished last night. although this morning when I went to hang it, I didn't realize it was still a little wet so I have some nice fingerprint smudges I need to fix on it now.

Obviously I'm no pro, but I love seeing my own stuff on the wall. It makes our home feel so much homier. What do you think??

On a related note, I'm going to try to take a pottery class in April. Any Clevelanders want to join me? They are in the evening for 2 hours for 8 weeks. $135 per course.

Loved the pictures and you are very good at painting. I agree things you make for your own home are more special and make it homier. Good luck with the pottery class. Hug Noah for us.

Are you taking the pottery class at the art house? I did that in fall 2008 and just loved the experience. Maybe I'll sign up again with you...let's talk about it!

You never cease to amaze me with all the fun things you try. I love your new art gallery - the painting over the piano is perfect. I will bring the French tapestry now.
