Spring break in March in Cleveland seems like kind of a joke, dontcha think? We wanted to get away from the cold and the huge mounds of dirty snow covering all unpaved surfaces in the area and yet we are students and have no money. We decided to head to SE Ohio to Hocking Hills and stay in a cabin.
The area surrounding our cabin wasn't so quaint--in fact some of the houses creeped us out a bit. It probably didn't help that all of the trees are still dead and barren. But once we got to the front of the "cabin" (looked like a bunker from the back where you pull in), we were pretty happy. despite the outside and inside being covered with lady bugs. There was a lot of accidental crunching during our trip. The weather was perfect and the "70% chance of rain" turned out in our favor the whole time we were on vacation!
We enjoyed eating our meals on our front deck overlooking a big hill full of trees. This place probably looks amazing once everything starts turning green again!

Planning meals for this trip made me realize the it's easy to plan 2 1/2 days worth of balanced, fairly healthy meals. Not so easy to plan them for every day of your life. Mark says "this is why we should have servants. So we can cook good food all day long and they can go to work for us"

We went on some hiking trips. The little sign hanging from the warning sign says "Warning Ice." starting on the bridge, the entire trail was covered with at least 3 inches of ice all the way to the falls. Fortunately, it was a short hike and we convinced Noah to walk most of the way. pushing an empty stroller on ice is easier than pushing and Noah-filled stroller on ice!

See the 2 big falls? Then to the right of that there is a big chunk of ice. that crashed down pretty much right in front of our faces. We were pretty icicle-conscious after that! It was a perfect time to be there--there was only one other couple there while we were there.

Isn't it beautiful?

This picture is taken from behind the falls.

Here is Mark and Noah right after the giant icicles fell down into the pool--not more than a 20 ft away!

You can see (or at least I can) where the large chunk fell from.

It's even easier to let Noah push an empty stroller on the ice while I get to hold Mark's hand. :)

Noah's favorite part of the whole trip: the water pump. He is still asking to go look for more pumps.

You'd think this kid had never seen a stick before. He wanted to pick up every single stick. And not twigs mind you. Big, large, branchy, sticks. even ones that were still attached to the ground and were in fact, skinny, bent over trees. Mark told me he was like Gandolf (from Lord of the Rings). I guess Noah heard because for the next 5 minutes he walked along repeating "Gandol, gandol,"

It was cool that everything was still frozen because we were able to walk up closer to the frozen waterfalls than we could have were they not frozen!

Notice our winter coats? When we left the hiking trails and got back into the field, we had to strip them off since it was so sunny and nice outside. It was a really cool juxtaposition. We had a great time and are looking forward to returning someday! Who wants to come with us?!?

We would love to come next time you go, if we can :-) !! It's looks like tons of fun!!
Looked like you had a fun and relaxing time.
Now I know why I love to see Noah with hair - he looks very much like Stuart. I can see he is very, very smart just like Stuart, too. I am glad you all had such a great time - and stayed safe inspite of falling icicles.
Beautiful, fun pictures!
