A word of advice

if you ever lose power for a significant amount of time...

DRAIN AND CLEAN the drip pan from underneath the fridge/freezer!!! All day long today I kept thinking I smelled really old vomit. I thought it was the garbage which was pretty much empty except for the hollowed-out rind of a cantaloupe. I hate cantaloupe by the way. Anyway, I thought back to the time one of my roommates in college had the electricity canceled over Christmas break even though she left all of her meat in the freezer. That was fun to come back to...
And so, I remembered about the drip pan and sure enough, that's where the smell came from. woooweee! Mark's cleaning it out right as we speak. Thanks Mark, just like last time!

There's a drip pan?? I had no idea. I don't think I'd even know how to access ours. Got any instructions?

It depends on how your fridge is set up--If the freezer stacks on top of the fridge the drip pan should be directly beneath the fridge. If they are side by side they drip pan is beneath the freezer side. Just get on your belly (in your case let our hubby do it ;) and look cause I'm not sure if this is how every fridge looks, but on ours there is a bar that you can pull off and then a little pan that you can wiggle out. You may or may not have to get a screw driver out (I think they did when this happened in college)

Holly! I love your blog! I think I need to come up with a screen name to identify me as your twin. Maybe your evil twin. Heh heh (evil laugh).

HA HA!! I remember that too!!! Even though we came home after you and Mark had cleaned out everything (wait, excuse me, after MARK had cleaned out everything) it still smelled like a large ROUS had died in there for weeks!! Ewwwww...
